Gary,
You've asked some good questions, but ... ones that
will lead to many more ... invest your time and effort
to really understand what each choice means, and you
will multiply your FUN over the long haul <no pun intended>
>1. Best overall directional antenna for 20-10 meters
>including WARC bands. I am planning an installation
>for the spring and have become overwhelmed with all of
>the data out there. I am currently considering the
>Mosley TA-33, the Force 12 C3SS, and the Tenedyne T-8
>log periodic. I like the T-8, but have heard that log
>periodics don't have the gain of a yagi. I have also
>heard that the C3SS has marginal performance on 17 and
>12 meters. Any recommendations, including other
>antennas you all would suggest that I evaluate?

Mnnn ... some good to fair choices above ... I'd look really close
at the F12 XR5 ... as that would seem to "fit" your needs.

<Nope, no connection with Force 12 but I have modeled
many of their designs and they seem to be very valid>
>2. What are the alternatives and best choices for
>telescopic masts? I want something that will get me
>up between 50 and 70 feet at a fairly reasonable price
>and that will support the antennas mentioned above (up
>to 8.5 s.f.)

I'll bow out at this point ... I've been one to stay with the
rigid fixed towers up to this point in my ham 'career' ...
However ... this I have learned from others ... you need to:
Read the ratings CAREFULLY, consider the BASE SIZE
exactly, and ALWAYS replace the support cables WHEN
they say too ... otherwise ... bad <VERY bad> things can
happen that takes away all of your joy. Be careful.
Hope this helps!
