[Antennas] Mosley Classic 33 Balun?

Don,
Your assumption about the need of the balun is correct. The Classic feed
will work without the balun but the resulting antenna pattern is likely to
not be symmetrical. I have been using the CL-33's brother CL-36
satisfactorily, for many years.
The simple balun recommended by Moseley in their instructions consist of 4
turns of your feed coax with an inside diameter of about 4 inches, mounted
close to the feed connector. It is easy to construct and works fine. Make
the turns over a flat form so they are next to each other not just lumped
together. Tape the turns to hold the cyndrical form. You can then remove
the form or just leave it there if you like.
Enjoy, Merry Christmas and 73,
