the plane area for proper operation.....other than that, not much difference
(well the dipole will be 60-75 ohms depending on height..also the coax must
be run 90deg away from it for a 1/4wave if possible to keep the radiation
from getting back into the feedline and allow the dipole to keep a proper
"doughnut" pattern of radiation..

from other metallic objects to keep the radiation pattern clean....a GP
antenna can have metal below the vertical element.....due to the ground
plane effect...
