Even if you push 1KW into it for less than 10 secs, it may cause the 
resistive element to overheat and change value....it may not open or 
burn up, but it wont be 50ohms anymore!!! Get a dummy load RATED at 1KW 
ICAS (intermittant duty) and you will be safe...
Yeah you may be able use it at 1 KW...for maybe 10 secs MAX!!!..then 
give it a minute OR MORE to cool down...but that's still IFFY!
