[Antennas] Bird watt meter Slugs

Good Morning to the Group,
I know this is a little off topic but it does regard some part of the antenna 
system. I also thought that maybe one of you might be a little old and a lot 
wiser in the ways of the world :). I have been given several Bird and 
Struthers Electronics slug for a watt meter. The odd thing is that several of them 
have holes drilled in them. The holes are in the top directly opposite the 
retaining pin (the small round one) and about a 1/4 inch from the edge in line 
with the pin. Is there anyone that could possibly enlighten me as to why these 
would be modified in any matter much less this manner. The slugs do not read 
power levels on their listed bands. Any help would be appreciated.
