Zoltan, I use a 250W gun with RG-8 type coax. The braid has already
been tinned prior to trimming the braid and the inner conductor to their
proper lengths. (The entire procedure is well illustrated in Bill Orr's
book "Wire Antennas.") It's important to allow the gun to heat up to
its maximum temperature before applying heat to the connector and braid
through the four holes in the shaft. I also lightly file or sand the
connector around the holes in order to remove any coatings that may have
been used during manufacture.
