[Antennas] Stubborn mag mounts

Ed, I use a wedge made from a piece of wood about 12 in long, about 2 in
wide that tapers from 1/2 in to 1.5 in. I slide it under the frame near
one of the 5 in magnets and give it a rap with the heel of my palm. Once
that magnet lifts I just raise the whole thing up 90 degrees and it
lifts off easy.
I glued some scrap felt to the bottom of the wedge to protect the roof
paint.
I have a thick cloth bag to put it in to keep any stray metal from
contaminating the magnets.
I had to go to the hospital one time and a friend took the mag mount off
of my van and put it in the back of his truck. Needles to say it picked
up every little piece of metal scrap, nail and screw. I had to order new
pads and do a lot of picking to clean it!

Jim, N5QL

Subject: [Antennas] Stubborn mag mounts
Do you guys have any suggestions for safely and effectively removing a
tri or quad mag mount from the roof of a van? It's hard to get above it
and get leverage. I must be getting weaker in strength and stronger in
only smell as I get older.
