[Antennas] help on vhf antenna xbeam

Hello Paim,
The x beam you have for VHF is probably designed for use working
satellites. I don't know for
sure because you didn't say what Model antenna it is. For satellite work
they feed both the vertical
and horizontal elements 90 degrees out of phase so they get circular
polarity out of the antenna.
You can feed the vertical elements for use working repeaters and mobiles
who run vertical antennas
or you can feed the horizontal elements for horizontal polarization normally
used for SSB, Cw, and
other weak signal work. You can run 2 coax runs and switch either vertical
or horizontal in your shack
or you can run a remote antenna switch to switch from vertical to horizontal
and run only 1 coax.
Let me know if you have any more questions. And normally if your using the
antenna for ssb/fm and not
for satellite work you would normally mount the antenna in a +
(vertical/horizontal) instead of and
X. They normally only mount the antenna in the X pattern when they are using
circular polarization because
that way the mast does not affect the radiation pattern
