Right on, Pat! Its personal preference and mechanical (physical)
advantages of one verses another. Electrically there's no difference at
HF.
There is a very sweet wire for most common dipole or loop antennas, if
you can get your hands on it. #18 guage multi-stranded (silvered)with
white Teflon insulation. Used for aircraft maintenance wiring. Very
tough, yet flexible, it solders very well, and seems impervious to
extreeme weather elements. Another bonus, nothing seems to stick to it,
such as ice. For the more common THHN house wiring, black insulation
has stood up best for me to the suns UV radiation. The #14 guage gets
kinda heavy for spans longer than 65 ft. This be the reason I opt for
smaller guage (weight) wire. Less sag and wind loading and less visible
at higher heights above ground.
