The balum is a device used to remove the rf currents from the outer shield of the feed line. It has little to no affect in matching the antenna.
That said, a dipole cut to a total length of 135ft, or 88ft will work on 80 to 10 meters when feed with 450 or 300ohm line. You will need a tuner for this coverage. The only way to do away with the tuner is to use one dipole cut for each band of interest. These can be feed with coax and a 1:1 current balum at the feed point will maintain the figure eight pattern by removing rf from the outer shield of the coax.
