Got my 'E' in the fall of '68, right before the beginning of 'incentive
licensing'. Novice in '64, General in '65 and then nothing until '68 because
at that time there was no reason - at least not that made sense to a 16 year
old - to upgrade because there were no additional privleges. Anyhow, at that
time, it was 2 years as a General before you could sit for the 'E'. You were
also required to have a minimum of operating time logged and available to
show the examiner should he ask for it. No idea what those actual
requirements were though.
