I could use some of the expert help from you list members. I am doing a =0D
new install of a Hustler 5-BTV Trap=0D
Vertical antenna, and this brings up two questions.=0D
=0D
1: How to decouple the transmission line. The set up sheet indicates =0D
that since the shield of the RG-8X is attached=0D
to the same place that you would attach radials, that the shield will =0D
act as a radial. Hustler would like for you to put=0D
a 6" diameter coil of the transmission line with in 8' of the attach =0D
point, and also another like coil with in 8' of the=0D
connection point to the transmitter in this cast a I-com IC-718. I =0D
have been told that ferrite beads added to the line=0D
up to a 12" in length will do the same thing. Is this true? If this =0D
is true would EMI shield beads like ones I have found in the Newark =0D
parts catalogue p part number 91F6484 do the job?=0D
=0D
Beads will work fine also. you can order them direct from Amidon at
http://www.amidon-inductive.com/associates_prod_chokes.htm=0D
or check out the Radio works chokes already made up at http://www.radiowo=
rks
com/hpcatalog.html Look under line isolators. Also there are others who s=
ell
the w2du choke which also works well.. But the 6" coil will do the job. =
on
most frequencies.=0D
=0D
2: Is there another way to decouple the transmission line, instead of =0D
the coils?=0D
SEE ABOVE=0D
=0D
3: Would there be any problem attaching a PL-259 connector in a weather =0D
proof box on the base of the antenna=0D
to make it easier to change the transmission line and also to make sure =0D
that I can keep moisture out of the=0D
coaxial cable?=0D
=0D
You should you don't really need the box though just fill each connection
with silcon grease. and wrap with water proofing tape. I use Electrinci=
ans
Splicing tape.. it's strechy and molds to the connector.=0D
=0D
I am not the sharpest tack in the box so kind of speak english when you =0D
give me suggestions. Thanking you list members in advance for any help =0D
you could give.=0D
