[Antennas] What I have learned about antennas from this list.

I joined this list with the idea that I might learn something useful. And I
have. Let me quickly list the items I have learned so that others may
benefit from it. We will cover this like the top ten reasons why....
#10. A dipole cut to resonance, hung high and outdoors, and fed with ladder
line is the ultimate and only permissible antenna on this list. Period.
#9. If you think any other antenna works, see #10.
#8. If you do not build this antenna yourself, you are not a "REAL" ham.
Go build #10.
#7. If you "BUY" an antenna from a store, see #8.
#5. If you try to help someone, and your information doesn't conform to
someone else's idea, you will be immediately attacked, and told to see #10.
#5. The T2FD/B&W folded dipole sucks. Yes it does. It has losses. It has
a resistor so big it sucks daylight out of the sky. If you have one or are
thinking of using one, see #10.
#4. If you have a T2FD/B&W folded dipole along the sea shore, and you have
the stainless steel version, see #5 and multiply times 2. Then see #10.
#3. If you cannot possibly have an outdoor antenna, and you must put up
something under the roof to operate or give up radio, then see #10 or give
up radio.
#2. If you have big credentials, have worked as an engineer, or work for a
big commercial broadcaster, you must know what you are doing and everyone
else must be wrong, so it cannot possibly work. If you do not have these
credentials, shut up and see #10.
AND THE NUMBER ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS LIST: Ham radio is a
hobby. It isn't even my primary hobby. I joined this list with the idea I
might pick up a few ideas. And along the way, I tried to help a few people.
If you have been helpful to me, I thank you for the effort. Some of it may
have even stuck! If I have been helpful to you, you are most welcome! If I
have mis-directed you, it was because of my experience or ignorance, but not
done deliberately. I am not an engineer, nor do I work for a broadcaster.
Heck, I am not even a REAL ham. If you are one of the people this message
is written to, and you know who you are.... see #10. #2 might also apply.
I have a rifle match tomorrow, and some ammo to load tonight if I hope to
win. Factory ammo just won't do. I am leaving now. And I won't be back.
I am sure you will miss me more than I will miss most of you. As I said
earlier, this is an endearing group. To you nice folks on the list: God
Bless! And God Bless America!
