[Antennas] Restricted size receive antennas. . .

Ron,
If you like to experiment with antennas, try an EH
antenna. http://eh-antenna.com/
They are only single band. I have a Hustler 6BTV vertical that works well
40-10 and a little bit of 80 less 17 and 24, but it needs a good radial
field. The length of the radials can be as little as 0.1 wavelength, but
you need a good number. Gap has some good performing mid size verticals
that don't need many radials (they call them counterpoises), and the
Cushcraft verticals, R5 and R7 perform well without radials. If you have
room, a G5RV performs well from 80-10, but requires a tuner. You might try
a top loaded vertical made from a flag pole and several wires radiating
around the top, but it needs a good radial field too. Flag poles come in
fiberglass now and you can run a wire up the side of it, then base load it
or center load it.
