Hi Juan,
The ARRL Antenna Book has a very basic description of cap hats (and top
loading with capacitance) in Section 6... This is a VERY basic description.
Perhaps someone with a cd-rom based manual (mine is paper) can cut the two
pages and post them to this list.
A 'google search for the PHRASE: "capacitance hat" will return lots of
reading material. Don't search on "top hat", unless you want to become an
expert on the subject of baseball hats.
One note common to all of the cap hat documentation I have seen is the
general comment that 'top loading is a very, very effective and efficient
means of loading a vertical'... verticals are usually 'loaded' to shorten
them.. typically for height restricted installations like mobile operation
on relatively low frequencies.
However, a top hat on a vertical creates a relatively large wind loading..
while mobile, the antenna may very well be flexed back too much away from
the vertical.
