[Antennas] Antenna Tuners

I am going to put up a Skywire loop or a dipole and feed it with ladder line
and trying learn something in the process. I know a true balanced tuner 
is supposed to be the best but getting two roller inductors is a little 
expensive. I was looking at a "T" network and "L" network setup
to use in making a antenna tuner with a balun on the output. 
Which one is better ?
Also I was using the software TLW that came with my ARRL antenna Handbook
in theory it helps you figure losses in your tuner for a T,L hi and low Z. 
Just scratch'en my head trying to figure this out
