Skip,
The Rohn catalog says that the hinge on the 68' 25G model should be at 31.5'. This leaves 36.5'
above the hinge. The allowed antenna areas are
- with guys at the hinge only, 2.3 sq ft at 20 lb/sf (about 70mph) and none at 30 lb/sf (about 87
mph)
- with guys at the hinge and apex, 11.7 sq ft at 20 lb/sf and 6.2 sq ft at 30 lb/sf
The guys are all 3/16" EHS. Also, the safe load at the apex for this configuration is 115 lbs.
If you only build the tower to 58' or 48', all of these numbers increase.
I have the 45G version of this tower. Some, especially on TT, will slam the fold-over idea. I have
had no trouble with mind in the 20 years I have had it. Of course, I have been careful, such as no
folding it over when there is any wind blowing. Perhaps others have not been as careful, and that
has lead to problems.
Let me know if you need more info.
Bob, W9UI.

Subject: [Antennas] Rohn Crank Over Tower
Hello
Recently purchased a Rohn 25 70ft crank over tower. The question I have
is where the break over section of tower should be located. It appears
there are two places it could be. One place could be at about 41ft with
26ft of tower located above or I could put another section of tower above
the hinge point for a top section of 36ft and the bottom section of 31ft.
Im not sure if the later could be the correct makeup. Does any one have a
print or instructions for this type of tower? The tower was in pieces on
the ground and the person was not sure how it went together. I will be
posting this on Tower talk also. Thanks.
