I just received this post from a friend who is usually in the know. Take
it for what it's worth:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html
Above is a link to an explanation of this hoax that is going around in
email. The
message you get from one of your friends will read something like this:
"Folks: I am sorry to say someone sent me a virus that I did discover on
my
C. drive. My address book was infected with the virus and as a result so
is
yours because your address was in my address book. The virus is called
jdbgmgr.exe. I am told it cannot be detected by Norton or McAfee anti
virus
programs. It sits quietly for 14 days before damaging you system. It is
sent automatically by messenger and by the address book whether or not
you
send e. mails. I followed the person's instructions that sent the notice
to
me and did find the file and deleted it.
l. Go to start, the Find or Search
2. In Files/Folders write the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure to search in the C. drive
4. Click Find or Search
5. The virus has a teddy bear logo with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN
6. Right Click and delete it
Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also. If you find the virus
you
must contact everyone in your address book, as their computers will also
be
infected.
I am sorry to add this problem to your list of things to take care of."
If you receive such a warning message, just ignore it. If you care to
read more about
it, you can go to the Web site and you can read what Norton/Symantec has
to say
about it. I received this message from a good friend who was just trying
to warn me
that he got it from a friend, and since I am in his address book, that I
should go find
the file and delete it. He had already deleted it off of both his
computers as per the
instructions. With any luck, you will never even get this hoax message
from anyone,
but now you know it is a hoax and the file they try to get you to delete
is part of
windows Virtual Machine/Java related, for certain applets, etc. Not a
critical file, but
it could cause your computer to not run certain Java based applets if
you were to fall
for this and delete it.
Lots of geeks & creeps on the Internet,
See ya later,
