Good Morning,
Now, between questions and opinions, there has to be something in
this one for everyone :)
I've just about finalized my ideas for the two wire antennas I will
put up hopefully before the end of the year (unless the rainy season
comes early). Before I start scrounging up materials and lining up
help for the TV mast party, I thought I'd briefly describe what I
want to do and solicit your comments and opinions. I have a specific
question or two about one of the antennas that involves a choice in
placement, so hopefully I can get a good answer or two on that.
The first one, whose configuration is pretty much set, is a tilted
delta loop of about 350 feet of 12 AWG in roughly an equilateral
shape with the point up. It will be fed from a lower corner with
open wire line to a air core choke balun, then into the shack
through an SPC type of transmatch. The apex will be about 65-70 feet
high with the base between 10 and 15 feet above the ground. It will
be oriented broadside N/S. Its support by the way is a 50 foot TV
mast on the roof, with non-metallic guys except on the lowest ring.
I had excellent results with a very similar antenna about 2/3'rds
this size, but with the base even lower...about 6-8 feel in that
case..so I'm hopeful about his one. I would enjoy any and all
comments, suggestions and discussion on this one
The second one has a choice to be made before I finalize its
configuration. In any case, it will be a simple dipole, 12 AWG,
center fed with open wire line through a coaxial choke balun to the
shack and an SPC design transmatch. It will also be oriented
broadside N/S (no real choice on either orientation).
Option A has a length of about 100 feet and both ends at about 50
feet above the ground, i.e. essentially a level flat top.
Option B has a length of between 125 and 130 feet, one end at the
same 50 feet, but the eastern end will be about 15' above the
ground..i.e. a sloper.
I'd be particularly interested in how the two options might compare
on the lower bands (80/40). On one hand I can have the height for
the whole length, but only 100 feet, the other has more length but a
lot closer to the ground on one end. Comments?
Thanks for your time. Please feel free to email direct since I
receive the list in digest form.
Dennis
