No. Think of it this way. Visualize a polar graph with the pattern for a
1/2 wave dipole viewed from above. Looks like two round balloons. Let the
shape of the balloons represent pattern (round broadside to the ant) and
the distance from where the balloons are touching to the outside represents
gain (one). You squeeze the balloons out of shape (directivity), and in
doing so, the balloons get longer (more gain). There's no more air in the
balloon (power), but you rearrange it to make it more pointy.
