I ended up with 6 shock cords in parallel. I started with one and kept
adding until it seemed right. I use #14 stranded insulated for the wire
antenna like George did, but got some #14 insulated stranded super flexible
antenna wire, and it is on the G5RV which is about 4' too long for the
space, so it goes around a boat pulley and down the mast. Probably affects
the pattern about 0.2 DB. The tree is on the opposite end, also with six
shock cords in parallel and no weight.
