or...a smallish spring ( not too strong) at the end is a good thing too. In 
fact if you are gonna
tie it to any other thing( trees, etc) along the route, you might want to 
use some stress relief
there also.
I've never really dealt with long wires much, but one of the strongest 
signals I ever heard out
of the South Pacific was a ZL that was using a 7 mile long abandoned 
telephone line.
This was in the early days of beams etc, so it might not be such an amazing 
signal now.
A dipole might be a better deal for you.
