A monopole (vertical) is also a balanced antenna: The radiator and radials
form a balanced antenna.
A vertical antenna is simply a dipole with the center conductor element
running vertical and the braid element running horizontal. Thus, the same
balun theory for a dipole would apply to a vertical.
