[Antennas] G-WHIP

I am refurbishing a G-WHIP mobile antenna and modifying it so that my
brother-in-law can use it from a fixed station while on holiday in Spain.
The original antenna was fed with the old Belling Lee type coax plug/socket.
I want to change this and the method of mounting. On the one I have there is
continuity between the centre of the coax socket and the antenna. There is
not continuity between the outer of the socket and the metal base that would
normally be grounded to the car. I presume there should be ?. The coax
socket is seized together. I'm putting WD40 on it in the hope of opening it
and investigating the matter more closely. Unfortunately I have no leaflet
on the antenna and what I got on the net was fairly scant. Anybody on the
list who can confirm the coax braid should, as I expect be grounded to the
metal base. Thanks
