CHris, adding idiot lights to the output indicator is
not that difficult. In fact, I submitted an article to
QST 2 years ago in hints and kinks showing such a
system, but the editor edited it out.
Using an LM3914 instead of the meter is very simple.
See this months(Mar 2002) Qst for an example of using
the 3914. The only disadvantage of the 3914 is that a
battery has to be added to the circuit. The meter does
not need a battery.
