Hi Bob:
It would seem to me the more appropriate question might be: If a manfacturer of ham antennas turns its customers on end, how long will they continue to have customers?
Oh yes [on the design parapeters], the antenna discussions seem to have overlooked the inherient inefficiencies involved in any antenna the uses traps and loading coils to electrically establish an antenna that would otherwise stand 65 feet tall.
Running an R-7 at the same height as a 40 meter inverted vee, I have consistently been given signal reports [and have noted the same on incoming signals] that are 1.5 - 2.0 "S" units lower on the R-7. Base on this real world comparison and notwithstanding those who have WAC and 100+ countries with it, I would have to agree with those fellows that argue that you should save your money and go for the wire. Who knows, maybe you will WAC and do 100+ counties in half the time.
