"Regular" coax (and most other `cables') are covered with a `VINYL'
jacket, which are NOT suitable for direct weather exposure or burial.
(it is made for inside wiring)
Several direct burial grades of coax are available, I use
Times brand and the LM-400 is RG-8/U size.
(other types get larger than 1" if I am not mistaken)
These direct burial cables are made with a polyethylene jacket.
Times LM-400 uses standard UHF connectors, but a special "N"
connector is available that fits better than the standard
connector. (the jacket is thinner as I recall)
If you want to avoid the possibility of grief, use burial
rated coax. or protect every inch possible, all ways
possible.
