[Antennas] Painting Galvanized Towers

It would not be a good idea to use a water based paint on ANY metal surface!
If there is even a slight nick in the galvanize... the damage will be quite
severe in a few months to a few years... the rust and decomposition of the
metal UNDER the paint and galvanize will spread! The water based paint
contributes to the start... yep, I know... after water based paint dries, it
is water proof! BUT on wood and siding, this material is porous and allows
all the moisture in the paint to evaporate and eventually disappear and the
sealing of the wood is complete. Not so with metal! The paint will form an
external water tight barrier and not only does it prevent rain coming in...
it prevents the trapped moisture in the paint from escaping and this is the
trapped moisture that starts its dirty work!
As an example... I paid a painting contractor to paint my home and there
were metal 6" posts supporting the deck... he said on those, I do not use a
water based primer nor do I not use a water based paint... the !#%^&* did
use water based paint and after about 1.5 years... the rust started leaching
through! Had to sand blast them down to bare metal, re-prime and repaint
with an oil based enamel & primer.

Anyone have a proven method for getting paint (water based) to stick well
to galvanized towers?
