One or two other not too trivial considerations:
If your tower fell for any reason and caused me any damage and I could
prove that you had assembled it with non-factory-supplied/approved
fasteners, guess who would win the lawsuit?
Also, if you had to secure a building permit for the tower and it was based
upon the engineering specs of the manufacturer, you would be in violation
of civil codes if you used inferior fasteners.
