Charles is correct, his models are pretty much on the mark. What he has
done is to remind us of the impact of using a directional array, as in
either
a parasitic, or driven array at lower heights may, due to the pattern being
changed, actually lower the average angle of radiation.
I used a model of the Cushcraft 40-2CD here to compare with Charles
models as another reference point.
You can also see this by using 2 half-wave dipoles, at a low height
and watch what happens to the pattern/wave angle if you drive them
together. (Think W8JK array ...)
As you move higher, the difference becomes less ... Charles, thanks
for reminding us to consider what can happen at the lower (height-wise)
end of the RF envelope !
