Gentlemen:
I have known for a couple of weeks that plans were underway to switch the
entire collection of qth.net reflectors from the venerable, but decrepit,
Majordomo list server software to a new system. Despite the fact that I
was told the change would not be put into effect for this list until I gave
the green light, it was abruptly transported to the new system, leaving me
pedaling hard to catch up, and resulting, I am sorry to say, in confusion
on the part of many list participants who were also caught unaware.
The new program is called, Mailman. You will notice that the new address
for posting to the list is now:
[email protected]
There are many advantages to the new system and it will serve all of our
needs much better. It will just take me some time to get up to
speed. I've managed hundreds of lists on a wide variety of servers, but
Mailman is a new one for me.
For a quick overview, send a message to:
[email protected]
In the body of the message, put the single word:
help
If you have questions, feel free to ask. I may not know the answer, but I
will try to find out for you as we learn together.
The list is still set to reject messages in anything other than plain text
format, and part of the spam filter will reject messages with anything in
the BCC: line, or over 10 addresses in the CC: line. Also, as with
Majordomo, you must send from the address under which you are subscribed.
You may receive some strange rejection messages, but they are usually for
the above situations. It may say something like "suspicious header" if it
detects any of the above.
Mailman has a "nomail" setting, which Majordomo doesn't, so you can use
that if you are going on vacation, or need to add a second address that you
want to be able to post from but don't want to receive messages at.
Mailman also has an automatic bounce handling routine, which is a great
boon for all moderators! If you find yourself deleted from the list for
bounced (undeliverable) messages, simply resubscribe.
Sorry for the confusion, but I didn't have any control over this.

Larry Wilson KE1HZ
