OM,
There sure is! While the 80 meter loop will eventually radiate, you will
do far
better with a dipole as the energy will be directed (not very much but
better
than the loop) more towards the station you want to work. Also, if you
get a
rotator (even the Radio Shlock one) you can "null out" local stations and
interference (point the end of the dipole towards the noise, there is a
pretty
decent null off the ends) and still copy the station you want from the
very broad
front and rear beams.
At the next hamfest, pick up a used copy of the ARRL Antenna Book or even
one of the vintage VHF handbooks. Cheap way to get to know about the VHF
bands.
