Thanks Steve! Yes I love my antenna analyzer for backyard and mobile use.
I used the trial version of NEC Win + last summer...stumbled along and made
a few gross mistakes til I figured things out. I have also been thinking
about getting the book of examples you mentioned, to speed up the learning
curve.
I enjoy playing with antennas. Unfortunately at my present qth deed
restrictions have reduced me to stealth wires in a grove of trees behind the
house. Dont think NEC has a "tree" factor to plug in, but as a retired
engineer I like to see what the antennas are supposed to do and how my
imperfect layouts affect performance. Since I have a few months before
decent weather returns to NE Ohio, I might as well plan ahead from inside
the warm shack.
At the previous two qths ( tower, KT-34XA/204BA/slopers/delta loops)
managed to take high score for Ohio and WNY in a couple of CQ and ARRL DX
tests. But have been on the sidelines the past 5 years due to deed
restrictions. Just now regaining the desire to compete despite present
limitations.
I think I'll take your advice on both counts.
