Years ago I had some Willard Lead Acid batteries. They had lead terminals
on top. I used brass screws to secure wires to these. After a short amount
of time some sort of reaction took place and the screws literally turned to
blue putty, then began to ooze. What was once a 10-32 x 3/8 brass screw
became a two inch long blue oozy mess coming out of the holes in the
terminals! What happened here?
The reason for my question:
I need to fill two holes in aluminum. The holes are threaded, so I will
most likely use a plug or screw of some sort. This will be exposed to the
weather 24/7, in a damp dirty location. I can protect things in general
with a coat of paint, but what can I use that will not react to Al? Is
brass and aluminum compatable?
