A 'single discone' is simply an 'inverted' quarter-wave vertical with
one part of the element [the cone] being a 'broadband' radiator which
allows a wide frequency coverage.
In truth, the 'gain' of a 'single discone' is LESS than a dipole.
The 'double discone' is nothing more than a 'fan dipole' in a vertical
configuration and provides a similar 'broadband' effect due to the
'cones'. Not quite sure, but would imagine that the 'double discone'
has 0 dbd gain.
