[Antennas] Antenna height above ground

Some time back when I was still working, I had an opportunity to have
more than one tower and several antennae on my property.
I had a vertical 5btvwb 5 band vertical mounted on the corner of my wire
fence using several acres as ground plain. I had a TV style tower made
up of 6 sections with a TH6DXX 3 band trapped yagi. I also had a 48'
Delhi free standing tower with a 20' tilt-over section on top and a 20'
pipe above that. I had a 106BA 10 meter beam mounted at the 75' mark
then a 5 element 15 meter beam at 84' then the 205BA 5 element 20 meter
beam on top at about 88'. NOw I was able to test the difference between
antennae during a couple of WPX contests. I found the tallest system was
the best by far for off continent QSOs but was very poor with North
American contacts. The lower antenna was at least 6 S units above the
higher system when QSOing in USA/Canada.
I believe there is a real correlation between antenna heights and skip
distance. I was told to try for half wave above ground for best DX. I
went a bit higher and found the results here. I now have just a wire vee
beam. Not nearly as good but maybe in another lifetime.
