[Antennas] How can I tell if my signal is getting out?

Well, when you read all the fine print, the boundaries of the system at the
feedpoints of the two antennas where a specific level of power is applied
to one and the output of the other at the end of the same length and type
of line terminated the same, etc. is measured. Then you swap places with
the power source and the output measurment equipment. So, really, the
actual equipment in use has little or nothing to do with it. Local noise at
one location can obscure the received signal and contribute error which
would tend to upset confirmation of the concept.
Practically, you are very much right. An S-38B on one end and a Super Pro
on the other end makes a real difference! <:}
