I just wanted to use one band, otherwise it had to be taken apart each time
to change bands. Both antennas worked equally good when both the
counterpoise and tap were properly used. I was really surprised how good
they worked even on 40 meters if you mounted it on a metal railing and
stretched out the counterpoise. 100 watts and I worked all over the world.

Hi Ron,
OK you told me most of the story but are you using a tuner?
We had it mounted at ground level,
4 radials and a 5th wire that was hooked to a lead sinker and tossed into the
canal I was backed up to.
It heard very very well but we were not able to make a contact
We went to his house because he has a window in the bathroom so we ran a
counter poise inside and dropped one out the window then grounded the rig to
the commode cold water feed.
Again we heard a lot on 40 and the band was full of QRN but still no contacts.
He decided that (and I agreed with him because my HB antennas were tuned that
way) to leave the extra turns on the coil.
Thanks for the inpit and will accept any more suggestions criticism, etc.
