port-pmax: DECStation 3100 Startup Diagnostics

I've got a DECStation 3100 that I'd like to try out, but when it 
is first turned on, it says 
7..6..5..4..3
??
Then I have to hit Ctrl-C to get back to the '>' prompt.
Does this mean that some component of the system is failing
a diagnostic test? Where can I find information on this system?
