tech-pkg: mail/mailwrapper deinstall problems

During my bulk builds the mail/mailwrapper package gets installed
(obviously). This creates a bunch of links into /usr/pkg/bin in place
of the native mail system. When it gets deinstalled, though, those
links are not reversed. As a result, the mail system is left in a
nonfunctional state. One immediate result is that the report at the
end of the bulk build cannot be mailed.
How is one supposed to deal with this?
