tech-pkg: what's up with statvsf?

I just saw a PR about statfs issues with NetBSD -current. I have seen
several other fixes and comments about this.
Can someone point me a discussion or documentation explaining why the new
-current way is the correct way and why the old interface is not the
compatible way?
