tech-pkg: CC/CXX can't be redefined for packages any more?

Hi,
I noticed that (for couple of days) CC and CXX
variables defined in /etc/mk.conf does not change
the compiler command for packages. While they
are visible for the NetBSD source tree (/usr/src),
and other variables, like COPTS are still working.
Can anybody help, please?
