We already have that ambiguity:
s = "I can shout!"
u = s:upper()
("hello"):gsub(".",print)
Could either mean
- assign "I CAN SHOUT!" to u, print each letter of "hello"
- call "I CAN SHOUT!" with "hello" and print the resulting letters
