To quote the Linux kernel coding style guide: "...The answer to that is that if you need more than 3 levels of indentation, you're screwed anyway, and should fix your program." Now, I feel like 3 levels as a minimum may be a bit extreme, but I agree with the general idea: if you've got too many levels of indentation, you've got room for improvement. The same principle applies to Lua, in my opinion.
