why not
ci->callstatus = (unsigned char) ((ci->callstatus& ~(CIST_YPCALL | CIST_STAT)) | CIST_YIELDED);

ci->callstatus = (lu_byte) ((ci->callstatus & ~(CIST_YPCALL | CIST_STAT)) | CIST_YIELDED);

I also have no idea why the conversion from long.
