See http://lua-users.org/lists/lua-l/2009-06/msg00331.html for a patch against 5.1.4 which implements the continue statement by imposing the restriction: the until clause cannot use any locals whose declaration could have been skipped by a continue statement. For reference, http://www.corsix.org/luacontinue/continue52.patch is the same patch, tweaked to apply against 5.2.0-work1, and both patches are available under the same license as Lua itself.
