Although there remain some odd little glitches. Consider this (Debian
Etch, i386)

libc = alien.default
I,S = 'int','string'
libc.access:types(I,S,I)
libc.getpid:types(I)
print(libc.access('test1.lua',0))
print(libc.getpid())
we get:
0
1379

Aborted
Now the fun starts! Put 'local' in front of the 'libc = ' line (as we
would usually want to do)

Segmentation fault
libc.getpid() seems to be the bugger, since things work fine with
other functions.
