Hi Jeremy,
look at the output of "dmesg", maybe it connects as "eth1" instead of "usb0". 
Mine connects as usb0 the first time I attach it, and the second time it is
eth1. I run Debian testing.
If that does not help, please attach the relevant output of "dmesg", this may
provide more information.
