I did the same thing as Rich then remembered the rules. It is okay to have a dupe for QTC purposes only. Toward the end if the contest when it was hard to find a non-dupe, I pounced on stations that I did not exchanged QTC and called them like "W4ZE W4ZE ANY QTC?". I entered 000 for the serial number. I picked up more QTC contacts this way and no one told me that we are a dupe and turned me away.
