Nick orders Knight Squad, goes for DHX’s Mayhem

New live-action series Knight Squad will begin production this fall, while the US kidcaster has picked up DHX Media's Massive Monster Mayhem (pictured).

As The Thundermans speeds toward episode 103, Nickeoldeon has greenlit 20 episodes of Knight Squad (working title), a new live-action comedy that follows two mismatched students at a magical school for knights.

The show begins production this fall in L.A. and stars Owen Joyner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Daniella Perkins (Legendary Dudas), Amarr M. Wooten (American Housewife) and Lexi DiBenedetto (Modern Family).

Knight Squad is created and executive produced by Sean Cunningham and Marc Dworkin, the duo behind The Thundermans. Currently in its fourth season, The Thundermans is now the longest-running live-action sitcom on Nick since iCarly, which had 109 episodes in total.

Adding to its live-action kids fare is DHX Media’s Massive Monster Mayhem. Nickelodeon has licensed 20 half-hour episodes of the original sci-fi competition series, which is aimed at kids six to 11.

Massive Monster Mayhem follows three kids as they compete in a series of challenges against CGI monstersfor the chance to win prizes. It is set to premiere later in 2017 on Nickelodeon and Family Channel in Canada.

Global distribution for the series will be handled by DHX Media, while consumer products licensing will be managed by DHX Brands.
